Why You Need A Business Bestie
The path of an entrepreneur can sometimes be a lonely one. When starting a business, you need someone to bounce ideas off of, turn to in times of need, and celebrate the wins with. What you need is a Business Bestie.
The role of Business Bestie is not a role that should be left vacant for long. It may take you some time to find yours but keep searching until you find your right fit. This yin to your yang can come in many different shapes and forms, and you may find this person where you least expect it. It’s important to spend some time thinking about what attributes you want in a Business Bestie and in what ways you want some help, advice or certain gaps to be filled. Not everyone’s Business Bestie does the same thing but you can probably recognize that someone is your Bestie if they are your go-to person to collaborate with. This partnership can be a give-and-take relationship where you both offer each other guidance and support, or it can be a relationship that is focused on your business, for instance when you pay for a service.
Your Bestie may be your business partner, a top strategic referral partner who offers a complimentary service to yours, or it could be your Business Coach or Mentor, or anyone else you work closely with. Your Business Bestie will likely have a welcomed influence over some of your decisions so it is important to choose them wisely. It is also okay to have more than one Bestie, just know what type of things you like to go to each person for. The most important thing is to understand your own skill set, talents, strengths and weaknesses, as well as level of knowledge in a particular area so that you can attract someone that will help balance you out and keep you on track.
Business Besties are a lot like our best friends in childhood. They make life more fun, exciting and rewarding and help to bring a deeper meaning and significance to our dreams and achievements as we move forward on our path. They are also there to encourage and support you when things do not go as planned. You may find one person that does all these things for you or it may be a few people who support you in different ways. Once you find your Business Bestie (or two), cherish them. As Ziad K. Abdelnour said, “You have three types of friends in this life: friends for a reason, a season and a lifetime.”
