Why You Need A Wellness Routine
We are all exceptionally unique and our wellness routines should be just the same. We don’t all like the same things and everyone benefits from certain activities more than others. It's important to experiment and figure out what works for you.
Your Wellness Routine
For me, my wellness routine includes meditation, walking meditations, eating well-rounded meals, vitamins, massage, chiropractor, reading books on personal development and spirituality, gratitude journal, weight training and counselling or coaching when I need it. During non-covid times I have also enjoyed adding mixed martial arts into my routine or a sporadic spin class! As a kid and young adult, I enjoyed playing sports, but more recently I enjoy activities that I can do on my own schedule.
A wellness routine should aim to help you feel grounded and give you the energy you need to bring your best self to your everyday life. It is very common for a wellness routine to change as our needs and desires change. It is also very common to fall out of your wellness routine from time to time and have to start from ground zero. Getting back to your routine and feeling in the zone may take some time. Often our work and day-to-day schedules get crazy busy or there are urgent things we need to tend to. There are all sorts of life events that will always interrupt our routines. It's good to know that if you fall out of your routine, even if years pass, you can always jump back in.
Getting Started
The trick is to start slow and work up to your ideal and previous routine. Don't expect to go from zero to starting a full-blown routine of personal wellness. Take small steps in the right direction and build up your stamina. One of the most common times for people to engage with a Life Coach is when they are looking to start or get back to a wellness routine and need to become more accountable. A Life Coach will help you set realistic goals and stay on track.
There are endless benefits to having a personal wellness routine.
You will have a healthier, longer and happier life
You will feel calmer and more energized each day
You will start to like how you look and feel
When we feel good (inside and out) and like how we present ourselves to the world, our positive self-image and confidence carries over into other areas of our life. With a wellness routine, you will be able to deal with stress and anxiety better and have more regular, positive emotions. Two of the most common wellness activities are exercise and meditation. Together, they can improve our daily lives as exercise releases endorphins to make us feel good and meditation can bring calmness and help with sleep.
What to Include in Your Routine
When you set out to implement a new wellness routine or to add to your existing routine it is important to measure your results. Also, before you add to your routine, be sure to do some research to see what the anticipated benefits of such an activity are and if that's a good match for what you want to achieve. Some people have always loved to jog so going back to jogging can be a great choice. Others may have bad knees or just find it hard to ever get motivated to go for a jog (or just plain hate it) and that's OK. There are tons of cardio options. So if you don't like jogging, find something that you enjoy more, that is easier for you to jump into and isn’t so hard on your body.
A simple improvement to your personal health and wellness routine is taking your vitamins. You may have pre-existing conditions where certain vitamin supplements are recommended and can help you. Or you may just want to take a multivitamin for general wellness, hormonal balance and to combat nutrient deficiencies. Talking to a Naturopath is a great jump start to improve your current physical and mental health.
Professional Help
It is also important to take care of your mental health and wellbeing by seeking out the right professionals who can help you. If you're having relationship issues, a couples counsellor will help you find ways to improve your relationship and create a plan. If you have past trauma that needs resolving or are dealing with mental health issues, then talk to a professional therapist. If you need guidance, accountability and general life improvements, then consider working with a Life Coach to take the next steps in your life.
There are many elements to consider when creating a wellness routine that is right for you and gives you the desired results you want. If you are stuck, need a plan and want help, consider an accountability partner or Life Coach to help you stay motivated and accountable to your plan.
